Orenburg is the administrative center of the Orenburg region.

The city is located on both banks of the Ural River. It was built in 1743 as a fortress (castle). In 2020, the population was 570 thousand people.

Orenburg is known as the steppe capital of Russia. Gazprom, Orenburg Oil and Machine-building Plant are the largest enterprises. There are many museums in Orenburg. In Orenburg, many ancient streets, houses, theaters, palaces of culture and sports have been preserved. The city was visited by writers A. S. Pushkin, V. I. Dahl, the first astronaut Yuri Gagarin studied here. In Orenburg lived musician L. Rostropovich. A place that tourists like to visit is the Chkalov Monument, which stands near the pedestrian bridge over the Ural River between Europe and Asia.
